About Our Founder

North Then West was founded in 2023 by Joel Magalnick, a seasoned professional as a journalist, a digital experience designer, and an educator. currently serving as the Principal Consultant at North Then West since January 2023, where expertise is applied to customer-centric business value propositions. Alongside Joel’s role in North Then West, Joel has been an instructor at MacEwan University since September 2020, teaching the theories, methods, and application of digital experience design, including accessibility and inclusion.

Joel previously held positions as Chief Experience Officer at Starting Point Studios, Content Team Lead at Connected Marketing, Professor of Digital Communications at Wenatchee Valley College, and as Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of JTNews Media. His work has always put a strong focus on user experience, content strategy, and digital storytelling. Joel is highly committed to enhancing the intersection of human experience and technology through innovative design.

Joel’s holds a Master of Communications in Digital Media from the University of Washington, a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Colorado, and continued education in design, AI, and leadership.
